January 16 2015 - Hot Top Ten

GRAVE DIGGERS UNION - GHOST DANCE

Taken from the debut EP 'Don't Be Fooled By The Sun' out this week (read our review here) from the Chorley doom pop duo.

VIET CONG - SILHOUETTES

The Calgary post-punk quartet release their self-titled album on January 19 on Jagjaguwar, and tracks like this have already started the hype buzz. Catch them in the UK at London's Oslo on February 4.

BANKRUPT - THE LEGEND OF LEE MARVIN

New out at the start of January from a band who have been around rhe block a few times - in their native Hungary at least. The Budapest trio offer a tribute to the actor, with a melodic surfy 60s ambience, retro guitar sound and with a choir stuck in the chorus.

LEFT. - LAY WITH ME

Single taken from debut album, 'Sirens', out February 6 via Create/Control, from lush electronica Sydney duo Joni Graham and Sarah Corry. Swathes of modulating synths and electronic percussion, coupled with Sarah's airy vocals cast a chilled sonic shimmer.

BLOODFLOWER - PEOPLE/PLACES

Out January 26, the new single from the Cardiff-based electronic duo Jonnie Owen (vocals/multi-instrumentalist, formerly with The Last Republic) and Tom Manning (drums/multi-instrumentalist/ producer) - to be followed by EP, 'Noise', in March - that works synth-filled electro hooks, along with a catchy rhythm that harks back to 80s New Wave.

ALEX BUREY - THE INTIMIDATOR

Lead single from 'Inside World' debut EP - out February 9 - by 19-year-old producer and multi-instrumentalist, written and self-produced at his home studio. Catch tonight (January 16) at Green Door Store, Brighton and on January 21 at St Pancras Church, London.

CLARENCE CLARITY - MEADOW HOPPING, TRAFFIC STOPPING, DEATH SPLASH

Taken from the forthcoming debut album, 'NO NOW', out February 3 via Bella Union, from the enigmatic Londoner who has been hovering on the sidelines for a couple of years with his choppy post-witch-house styling, and now starting to make a steady impact.

MEISHI SMILE - BLANK OCEAN

Electronic project of Los Angeles-based producer Garret Yim. Wistful and evocative, with lines of stark synths and percussion, with vocoder-worked vocals - and just for good measure, some pan flute sounds.

FREEWEIGHTS - TRUE TO MY GAME

New single from the Helsinki five-piece, released earlier this week, which follows December's 'Lightweight'. Glossy and infectious 80s influenced pop.

SCREAMING FEMALES - CRIMINAL DAMAGE

New Jersey punk rock trio, fronted by one female in the form of guitarist Marissa Paternoster, with a rockin riffs monster of a track from their fifth album, 'Rose Mountain' (out February 24 on Don Giovanni), with Mastodon producer Matt Bayles.
